I just recently was complaining about how much Hollywood and the news media have changed since World War II. In those days they actually supported the war effort, unapologetically making propaganda films, reporting good as well as bad news, and telling our soldiers' stories of sacrifice and heroism. In WWII you heard all about Audie Murphy, Jimmy Dolittle, Pappy Boyington, Ira Hayes, George Patton, Chester Nimitz and many other heroes of that war.
In contrast, probably the only name you'll recognize from the current conflict is Jessica Lynch.
We all need to know about Sgt. First Class Paul Ray Smith, though. He's the first Medal of Honor winner in Iraq. We owe it to his memory.
The Wall Street Journal tells his story at http://www.opinionjournal.com/federation/feature/?id=110008153 .
